Presenting At Rules Fest
Rules Fest invites the submission of all presentation
abstracts that contribute to the aims and spirit of the
conference.
Suitable presentation abstracts might include, but are certainly not limited to, the following:
- Practical applications and case studies that illustrate reasoning technologies in action.
- Technical expositions that describe innovative, emergent, or disruptive reasoning technologies.
- Theoretical discussions of reasoning algorithms, techniques, and methodologies applicable to creating products and services.
- Discussions of frameworks, specifications, and standards that drive the adoption of reasoning technologies.
Please note that promotional presentations will not be accepted.
Abstract Submission Process
Submitting a presentation abstract is as easy as 1-2-3!
Be sure to read our Terms and Conditions first. Then,
- Choose a specific topic that fits one of the emphasis areas in our suggested guidelines (below).
- Write an abstract of 500 words or less that describes your talk in terms of the suggested guidelines.

You will be notified of acceptance either way by May 20, 2011.

- Case Study,
- How To,
- Deep-Dive, and
- What's New
Case Study
Theme: An illustrative narrative about reasoning technologies in action.
Goal: Experiential knowledge transfer.
- Problem context description
- Technologies used
- Assumptions made, constraints, caveats
- Problems, issues, challenges
- Solution procedure, design stages, or implementation steps
- Outcome, relevance, and take-away lesson
- [References and supplementary materials]
How-To
Theme: Technical tutorial that shows how to apply reasoning technologies.
Goal: Skill and procedural knowledge transfer.
- Description of technology involved.
- Relevance and learning objective of talk.
- Application context and applicable design patterns.
- Example(s) of technique(s), skill(s), or method(s) .
- [Live demo or audience participation exercise(s).]
- Summary and take-away message
- [References and downloadable resources (e.g., zip of demo source).]
Deep-Dive
Theme: Theoretical discussions of reasoning algorithms, techniques, and methodologies applicable to creating products and services.
Goal: Theoretical and tacit knowledge transfer.
- Theoretical context and relation to other reasoning technologies.
- Relation to practice and application.
- Analysis, example(s), code snippets, or graphics.
- Comments on further study and investigation.
- Summary and take-away message
- [References and downloadable resources (e.g., zip of cited sources).]
What's New
Theme: Discussions of frameworks, specifications, and standards that drive the adoption of reasoning technologies.
Goal: Exploration of where theory and research become standards and practices.
- Context of, need for, and Goal for given framework, spec, or standard.
- Relation to existing frameworks, specs, or standards.
- Benefits and supported justifications for adoption or creation.
- Problems, issues, challenges.
- Summary and take-away message

* Presentations that are missing recommended criteria will be given less consideration than those that include them. Criteria in [ ] are optional, but recommended.
Presenters are free to choose any titles, styles, templates, or other formatting.
Presentations that fall outside these guidelines will still be considered, as long as they do not violate the Spirit of Rules Fest or its charter.
